Overview:

We are currently seeking a Quality Technician to join our Product Quality team who has a creative, innovative approach to his or her work and will never shy away from offering truthful observations and recommendations.  We’re looking for a highly organized, methodical professional with exacting attention to detail and the experience necessary to take our products to the next level in terms of safety, quality, and accuracy.  A proven track record of experience is essential. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Based out of our Danbury facility or remote, the Quality Technician performs functions associated with the checkout, inspection and testing of fuel cell power plant mechanical and electrical Balance of Plant (BOP) skid assemblies, main components, and individual equipment at supplier/fabricator facilities.  Additionally, complete inspections and verifications of mechanical and electrical work at FCE customer power plant installation sites.  Including, but not limited to wiring checks, instrumentation (I/O) testing, piping inspections, general build inspections, and the proper documentation of all testing and inspections. Travel to various fabricators and suppliers domestically and occasionally internationally. Travel 50% plus.

  • Perform in-process and final inspection of vendor supplied skid assemblies and equipment at vendor facilities per applicable drawings and specifications
  • Complete dimensional verifications of key skid structural, process connection, and equipment characteristics using appropriate measurement tools
  • Use process meter and/or multimeter to complete device loop checks of process skid I/O
  • Conduct hand-over-hand skid system walkdowns
  • Use pressure test equipment paired with meter to complete testing of pressure sensing devices
  • Properly document results of all inspections and testing
  • Use of basic tools to access equipment, panels, and devices and in troubleshooting efforts
  • Perform in-process and final inspection of power plant site installed mechanical and electrical work completed by installation contractors
  • Review test and inspection documentation generated by vendors and contractors
  • Initiate and maintain running punch list for issues noted during above mentioned inspections
  • Communicate inspection results, test results, and nonconformance issues via email and/or reports to applicable stakeholders
  • Provide feedback to Engineering on drawing escapes and possible improvements noted
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:   High School Diploma/GED required.  Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology or an applicable discipline is a plus.

 

Experience:  Minimum of 2 years related experience, preferably in skid or packaged equipment fabrication inspections and testing.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to operate responsibly, cooperatively, and flexibly in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Able to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, piping isometrics, structural fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, and specifications - knowledge of GD&T is a plus
  • Math aptitude including the ability to perform computations with all units of measure (international and U.S.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English (writing and verbally)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to act as the quality liaison between FCE engineering, FCE procurement, suppliers/fabricators, FCE project management, and site installation contractors to clearly communicate requirements and effectively resolve non-conformance issues
  • Capable of clearly documenting deficiencies in a punch list and tracking those items through to acceptable completion
  • Good troubleshooting ability/experience to both understand and support vendor efforts to resolve issues discovered in testing
  • Demonstrable experience using precision quality measurement tools
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 registered quality management system preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with welding codes, WPS, PQR, and weld inspection techniques (ASME Section IX, B31.1/.3, AWS D1.1, D1.3, and D1.6) a plus
  • Familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70) and NFPA 79 electrical standards is a plus
  • Knowledge of skidded equipment electrical installations and control panel construction a plus
  • Experience with ERP system based quality software system preferred (knowledge of Microsoft D365/ERP Solutions quality software, a plus)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Basic knowledge/experience on interfacing with PLCs and/or test HMI programs is a plus but not required
  • Creativity to identify solutions and improvement opportunities in a dynamic environment
  • ASQ CQI Certification is a plus

 

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

 

  • Domestic and International Travel required: up to 70%
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid passport and travel without restriction internationally is required
  • Capable of walking (standing) on concrete flooring in a large manufacturing plant, or uneven installation/construction site for extended periods of time to perform various tasks throughout the day
  • Must have full mobility to climb ladders and maneuver through tight areas for inspection of large equipment/skid units
  • Must be able to lift or move items up to 25 pounds with or without assistance   
  • Must be able to work with both hands and arms in full range of motion, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb throughout the day
  • Computer work for extended periods of time is also required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to distinguish between colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to work physically in the manufacturing plant or construction site, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety gloves, hard hats, safety shoes, etc., as designated
  • Ability to hear or be aware of audible danger alerts
