The pay for this position ranges from $108000 - $115000.

 

 

Overview

We are currently seeking a proactive and highly motivated Sr. Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support our East Coast operations, including multiple power plant sites across the state as well as our Torrington manufacturing facility and Danbury research and development facility. This hybrid role will involve a balance of field-based support for power generation operations and onsite support for manufacturing and R&D activities. This role’s reporting location will be at our Torrington manufacturing facility with frequent travel to other facilities as needed. The EHS Coordinator will play a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across diverse work environments.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, adaptable, and capable of working independently in fast-paced and dynamic settings. This role requires approximately 50% travel throughout the East Coast region, with routine presence at both field and fixed facilities

Responsibilities

  • This role will be to coordinate and support the department’s day-to-day administration of the corporate EH&S program for FCE’s East Coast Operations across multiple facilities.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, health & safety and manages contact with appropriate agencies where necessary.
  • Ensures compliance to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System) as necessary.
  • Administers and maintains the EH&S Corporate Compliance Calendar, Contractor / Supplier Management System and Recordkeeping Databases.
  • Works with FCE team members to prepare regulatory reports as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with FCE team members to coordinate and improve overlap areas between power plant design and site EH&S.
  • Prepare, implement, and manage site specific EH&S plans, programs, and procedures. Research technical issues as they relate to Environmental Health and Safety concerns.  
  • Assist with the preparation and ensure compliance of site-specific permits, including sampling activities.
  • Conducts audits on EH&S record keeping activities. Monitors and periodically reports on these activities, audit results, and any issues.
  • Supports the achievement of EH&S Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Assists with program development and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.  Makes recommendations on program improvements and compliance.
  • Coordinates site specific EH&S inspections to identify risk factors; assures all identified risk factors have corrective actions and planned abatement plans identified; must track in the internal tracking database to timely closure.
  • Investigates injuries, incidents and near misses in the workplace. Completes thorough reports and makes recommendations for future injury and incident prevention.
  • Ensures timely employee completion of EH&S training.  Makes recommendations on training program improvements, delivers necessary training, and ensures training meets regulatory compliance when required.
  • Assures proper management of all waste streams (e.g., hazardous, non-hazardous, and recyclable materials).
  • Participates in cross-functional teams and ensures EH&S goals are at the forefront of everyone’s projects and workday.
  • Provide EH&S oversight and support on new and ongoing projects as needed.
  • Supports corporate ESG initiatives.
  • Supports the EH&S department by completing required reports, spreadsheets, data processing and other documentation processes.
  • Works with internal departments to develop and implement job / site specific health and safety plans and Job Safety Analysis forms (JSAs).
  • Works with department personnel to inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Administers controlled document management system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:    Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health & Safety; or relevant degree

Experience:   3-5 years of industry experience required.

 Candidate must possess / be knowledgeable in:

Communication: Strong people skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing, within all levels of the organization.

Safety and Environmental Regulations: Safety and Environmental disciplines with a strong background and knowledge of OSHA and the EPA. The candidate should also be knowledgeable or become proficient in state-specific EH&S regulations, such as CalOSHA, CUPA, or CTDEEP.

Strong Analytical Skills: Proficient in situational analysis, problem definition, and solution generation to drive system and corporate-wide improvements.

Change Agent: Results oriented advocate of continuous improvement in all areas; people, processes and products and must be able to multi-task and respond quickly to change and with urgency.

People Skills: Many career accomplishments are attributed to strong coaching, leadership, influencing skills and the promotion of a team-based culture.  Successful advocate of personal development and able to quickly form effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, supervisors, and customers.

Broad Experience Base: Technical background in several disciplines including but not limited to EH&S, power generation, customer support, and general business management.

Computers: MS Office Suite, with a strong proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Must be able to physically work in an office environment, where work is sedentary.
  • Must be able and willing to frequently enter laboratory, warehouse and shop floor environments, which require the ability to move from area to area inside the main building as well as to unconnected buildings in the immediate area.
  • Must be able and willing to physically work in an outdoor construction or power plant setting where exposure to environmental elements is mandatory.
  • Be able and willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, etc. as required.
  • Must be willing to travel locally using your own vehicle with reimbursement for expenses.
  • Must be able to travel: Domestic day travel to east coast locations or throughout the country on a very infrequent basis.
  • Must be able to work at our Torrington Facility as “home base” when not traveling to support other facilities. 
  • Must be willing and able to respond to and participate in after-hours needs and requirements in support of the business.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
