Engineering Technician

Summary:
In this role, the Engineering Technician will work closely with Production Engineers to support the development, implementation, and improvement of fuel cell manufacturing methods. Partnering with other members of the Value Stream Team, including quality, product, and industrial engineers, you will help execute process requirements and provide technical support to continuously improve safety, cost, quality, production capacity, and process yields.
Essential Functions/Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support production improvement efforts and assist with assigned technical projects, including select equipment and process improvement initiatives.
- Monitor one or more stages of the manufacturing process while equipment is running.
- Work in several departments as a support role for manufacturing
- Assessing the quality of products and identifying any flaws
- Troubleshooting problems that arise with machinery and making repairs to automated and semi-automated equipment
- Study time, motion, methods, or speed involved in maintenance, production, or other operations to establish standard production rate or improve efficiency.
- Verify that equipment is operated and maintained according to quality assurance standards by observing worker performance.
- Coordinate work activities by collaborating with welders and machinists per engineering instructions.
- Utilize engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instructions to build mechanical assemblies and test rigs.
- Exercise good judgment and initiative while providing a high level of workmanship to achieve results. Work independently to the extent practical and collaborate as needed if uncertain how to perform a task.
- Utilize Statistics to make informed decisions on when implementing process changes
- Participate on cross-functional teams which may include R&D, Production Development, Facilities, and Environmental Health & Safety.
- Performs other duties and tasks as directed by Management
Education & Work Experience: Associate degree in engineering technology, manufacturing technology, or a related technical field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma/GED with 5+ years of applicable industrial or manufacturing experience.

- Strong communication skills are essential, both oral and written.
- Must have experience troubleshooting automated machinery.
- Hands on experience with fabrication.
- Experience using hand tools including power tools for all ranges of general assembly.
- Must possess the ability to research and analyze various types of information.
- Possess the ability to read blueprints and drawings
- Capable of working in awkward positions occasionally for assembly of test set-ups and prototype assemblies.
- Possess general computer skills with a working knowledge of Excel, MS Power Point, Outlook, .pdf files, digital photos, and other software for reporting and general administrative purposes.
- Experience with robotics preferred.
- Hands on experience with welding preferred.
- Ability to operate a fork lift, scissor lift, and boom lift required.
- Experience with 3D modeling is a plus (SolidWorks used).
Working Environment/Working Conditions:
- The position is in-person and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday.
- Travel is estimated at up to 5% domestically, with limited international travel as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to move effectively and timely in and around 200,000+ square foot cement floored manufacturing facility
- Lifting, pushing, pulling and placement of manufacturing parts weighing 50lbs or more.
- Ability to work with, and around, chemicals, including but not limited to nickel-based compounds, adhesives, and solvents.
- Ability to work around furnace area with smoke, dust, and heat (wearing personal protective equipment).
- Be able and willing to wear required personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and other PPE as required.
- Must be able to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
- Ability to travel to other company locations as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks with full range of motion with both hands/arms (motions include circular, up and down, back and forth, side to side and overhead).
- Ability to remain on feet and move from area to area within a shop for a period of eight (8) hours with standard breaks.
- Must be able to distinguish color for work with color-coded components.
