Senior Facility Technician (Second Shift)

Summary: 

We are currently looking for a Senior Facility Technician to join our fast-paced facilities team at our Torrington, CT fuel cell manufacturing facility. This position will report directly to the Facilities Supervisor and will serve as a senior technical resource supporting daily operational readiness, equipment reliability, and long-term facilities performance. The Senior Facility Technician is responsible for performing complex preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; diagnosing and resolving advanced building systems issues; and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across facility infrastructure and manufacturing operations.

 

Essential Functions/Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment supporting building systems, utilities, and critical facility assets.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic, and process support systems.
  • Document all predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities on building assets and ensure maintenance records are accurate and complete.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for troubleshooting, repair planning, and execution of complex maintenance work.
  • Support, train, and provide day-to-day guidance to facility technicians and contractors to ensure safe and effective work practices.
  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to determine required repairs and maintenance.
  • Dismantle, repair, rebuild, and reassemble machines, equipment, and facility components using appropriate tools, lifting devices, and safety procedures.
  • Inspect and test damaged equipment, identify defective areas, and recommend repair, replacement, or improvement actions to supervision.
  • Start up, monitor, and adjust equipment and support systems to verify proper operation, efficiency, and compliance with operating parameters.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, EH&S, and external vendors to complete repairs, upgrades, shutdowns, and facility improvement projects.
  • Perform regular inspections of plant infrastructure, safety systems, and process support equipment to identify risks and maintain operational readiness.
  • Inventory and requisition maintenance parts, tools, and supplies to support uptime and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and maintenance processes.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a professional manner, following all work instructions, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
  • Work to industry-standard best practices, specifications, and applicable codes in a safe and efficient manner and perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

Education: HS Diploma or GED required; Trade School, technical certification, or an A.S. degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology or a related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 6+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing facilities or industrial maintenance environment, including advanced troubleshooting and repair of building systems and facility equipment. Prior experience serving as a lead technician, mentor, or senior team member is strongly preferred.

 

 

Candidate must be knowledgeable with experience in:

  • Mechanical systems, machine repair, and maintenance techniques, including advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Building systems including HVAC support equipment, plumbing, electrical distribution, compressed air, pneumatics, hydraulics, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Production and processing environments, including quality, safety, and operational requirements within a manufacturing setting.
  • Repairing, rebuilding, maintaining, and installing facility and manufacturing support equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting layout plans, blueprints, operating and repair manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Safe use of machine shop tools and equipment as well as tools used for electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance.
  • Preventive maintenance systems, maintenance documentation, spare parts control, and continuous improvement practices.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Be willing to work beyond a normal schedule as necessary to support business and facility needs.
  • Must participate in a 24/7 emergency repair and on-call support rotation.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and effectively to urgent equipment or facility issues in a manufacturing environment.
  • Physically perform work including lifting and carry a minimum of 25 lbs. routinely and up to 100 lbs. on a non-routine basis with assisted lifting devices. 
  • Must be able to distinguish colors
  • Work and physically move throughout a 170,000 sq. foot plant and on the outside grounds to perform various tasks in normal seasonal Connecticut temperatures and conditions. 
  • Possess the ability to work at elevated heights in appropriate equipment and operate a forklift and man-lift.
  • Work in, around, and under manufacturing equipment, working with both arms and hands simultaneously, pushing, pulling, grasping, etc.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Be able and willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required
  • Must be able to effectively read, write and speak in English to ensure team communication and be able to follow written procedures. 
  • Must be willing to work as part of an integrated team and cross functionally with other departments.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel locally for company business.
  • Must be able to support Danbury operations on an infrequent and “as needed” basis.
